Tomeka Reid - dance! skip! hop! (OOYH 041) was released February 13 2026 (LP/CD/limited streaming) on Out Of Your Head Records, featuring the steady quartet of Tomeka Reid (cello) with Mary Halvorson (guitar), Jason Roebke (bass), and Tomas Fujiwara (drums). Two months into 2026 it was already predicted to be a Top 10 album of the year contender by JazzTimes and The Guardian. In early May Reid was announced as one of six recipients of the prestigious 2026 Doris Duke Artist Award, and dance! skip! hop! was featured on NPR Fresh Air, which said “Her latest album is one of her most compelling. Tomeka Reid expands the possibilities of jazz avant garde.” The quartet, which features two MacArthur Fellows (Reid in 2022 and Halvorson in 2019), continues touring this Summer in Europe and an appearance in September at Chicago’s Sound & Gravity Festival. Since the release of dance! skip! hop! Reid has been featured on the cover of Women In Jazz Magazine, interviewed on The Tonearm, received dozens of favorable reviews including PopMatters, Bandcamp, Stereogum, Paste, and featured on WRTI’s The Late Set whose host Nate Chinen predicted 2026 to be "the Year of Tomeka Reid.” While that prediction certainly appears to have come true, next year is shaping up to be equally noteworthy. She has two albums slated for 2027 release on Out Of Your Head Records, her tribute to Duke Ellington, and the debut recording by her Stringtet, a 17-member improvising chamber orchestra.
